QUESTION: What does the GBN do?
ANSWER: The
GBN is a not-for-profit business organization that collaborates with five area
business membership organizations dedicated to provide education and networking opportunities for
companies that have global business operations or aspirations. Programs are designed to
transfer practical skills and knowledge, while facilitating networking in the
Tech Valley business community and beyond.
Our collective involvement in GBN activities enhances our perspectives
and understanding so we can all be more effective about business on the global
stage. And, if you think your business
is only local, then you will find many of these international companies also seek
local companies to help meet their needs as they grow.
QUESTION: What kinds of companies does GBN attract?
ANSWER: GBN represents a broad array of companies
from single-member entities to well-known Fortune 500 companies. While a core group of
interested companie are traditional
importer/exporter businesses, others include manufacturers,
high-tech companies, as well as service providers such as attorneys,
accountants, bankers and consultants.
QUESTION: My company focuses on the local
marketplace. Would GBN still be right for me?
ANSWER: Absolutely. In fact, many of GBN’s members do not view
their primary business as international.
However, their Capital Region customer base is often greatly affected by
the local growth of global business and they find they have more opportunities
keeping up with new needs. In addition,
the ability to “go global” today is becoming so barrier free that virtually any
company with a web site can find a potential market for their product or
service anywhere in the world.
QUESTION: I am a service provider. Would GBN be right for me?
ANSWER: If your
business grows based on the contacts you add every day, then GBN is right for
you. The “members helping members”
concept is founded on providing value-added help to each other. So, if you have something valuable to teach
others about a global issue or trend, then a program may be the right venue to
reach others.
QUESTION:
How do i join the GBN?
ANSWER:
GBN is open to any member of the Albany-Colonie, Schenectady, Rensselaer, or
Southern Saratoga Chambers of Commerce, as well as the Center for Economic
Growth (CEG). Just watch your e-mail or check out the calendar of events
(e.g., ACC events page).
QUESTION: How does GBN support its programs and
operations?
ANSWER:
Working with partner organizations, GBN relies
entirely on its program fees and sponsorships to underwrite
all of our activities. We have made a
strong effort to keep our organization at the right size of business volunteers to provide
value in the form of education and networking at affordable prices to our
partnership members.
QUESTION: How can I get involved?
ANSWER: If
you are not yet a member of any partner organization, one way is to join the
organization most suitable to your needs. If you are already a member, go to any of our events and
meet the members of the GBN steering committee.
